25th January 2019 delivered by Rev. Chris Wilson
For good or ill, the Russian revolution changed the course of human history. The idealism it generated inspired other revolutions, the ideology it created justified tyranny and oppression.
But was it inevitable? Did the workers and peasants really take power in October 1917? Or, alternatively, was Lenin the superb opportunist able to radically change Marxist beliefs to suit his own ends? Was there another alternative to Kerensky's failed Provisional Government of February 1917? And what are the lessons for today? These questions and so many more will be explored in this taster, and the associated short course, 'Russia in Reform and Revolution'.
Come along and have a listen, and make your own mind-up on the 'ten days that shook the world.'
