An Audience with Marie Heaney
Tonight's session focuses on both the remarkable creative legacy of Marie and Seamus Heaney as well as their contribution to education in Ireland, both North and South. They met when graduating from teacher training college and both went on to spend many years as teachers in Crossgar, St.Louise's, Belfast, Queen's and Harvard.
Seamus also presented numerous schools programmes for the BBC in Belfast and we plan to show extracts of his work. Meanwhile Marie wrote " All through the Night" which features night poems and lullabies for all ages,"Over Nine Waves" which introduces its readers to Irish myths and "The Names Upon the Harp", Irish legends for children.
Marie will also read some of her favourite Seamus Heaney poems and discuss their significance for her.
