The number of Newcomer pupils in Northern Ireland has increased in the past number of years and this has brought many new challenges to the educational sector in Northern Ireland. These pupils arrive with a diverse range of needs that include Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disabilities. This course will equip educational professionals and support staff to teach and improve provision for Newcomer pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Disabilities. It will take learners through the key concepts and teaching methodologies that can be applied when teaching Newcomer pupils with SEN/Disabilities, examine the educational barriers these pupils may face, how to appropriately adapt educational resources, how to implement reasonable adjustments and practical accommodations, how to create inclusive classrooms and assessments and examining policies and legislation in this area.
