All courses all fully online.  

Study on these CPD course is self-paced. Students who enrol in October are expected to complete by the following January. Students who enrol in January are expected to complete the course by May of the same year.

REFRESHER COURSE ON EDUCATIONAL TESTING

This course is aimed at assessors who would like to take a refresher course on educational testing. The course covers 8 main areas which are presented in 8 sessions: (1)Educational Attainment and Ability Testing: Intelligence; (2) Educational Attainment and Ability Testing: Perspectives on Assessment and Testing; (3) Understanding the Basic Principles of Psychometric and Educational Assessment; (4) Understanding Psychometrics part 1 Norm Referenced Interpretation; (5) Understanding Psychometrics part 2: Classical Test Theory and Reliability; (6) Understanding Psychometrics part 3: Validity and Utility in Educational Tests; (7) Utilising Tests: Selection, Interpretation and Feedback; and (8) Legislative Framework and Implications for Practitioners

This course includes online assessments allowing  participants to gauge the level of their knowledge and consider whether there are any areas that require further study.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE TOMAL 2

This course focuses on the administration and scoring of the Attention and Concentration Index within the Test of Memory and Learning (TOMAL 2). These arespecifically TOMAL 2 subtests 9, 11,12,13,14 and not the test in full. This course is aimed at assessors who already have a good understanding of memory and psychometrics and does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students are required to video themselves administering and scoring the test and submit these videos to Stranmillis University College VLE for assessment, together with a summary of the test findings. Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.

TOWRE 2

This course focuses on the administration and scoring of the Test of Word Reading Efficiency, 2nd edition (TOWRE-2). Two subtests measure the ability to sound out words quickly and accurately (Phonemic Decoding Efficiency subtest) and the ability to recognise familiar words as whole units or sight words (Sight Word Reading Efficiency). This course is aimed at assessors wishing to provide a measure of an individual’s ability to pronounce printed words accurately and fluently who have a good understanding of reading acquisition and development.  It does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students are required to video themselves administering and scoring the test and submit these videos to Stranmillis University College VLE for assessment, together with a summary of the test findings. Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.

WRIT

The course focuses on the administration and scoring of the Wide Range Intelligence Test (WRIT).  Four subtests are administered to provide standard scores for verbal and visual IQ which contribute to an overall measure of underlying ability (General IQ).  This course is aimed at assessors who have understanding of intelligence and psychometrics and does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students are required to video themselves administering and scoring the test and submit these videos to Stranmillis University College VLE for assessment, together with a summary of the test findings. Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.

DYSLEXIA PORTFOLIO

The course focuses on the administration and scoring of nine subtests contained within the Dyslexia Portfolio.  These subtests are administered to provide measures of literacy attainment at word level, speed of processing, phonological processing skills and short term and working memory abilities.  This course is aimed at assessors who have understanding and knowledge of dyslexic type difficulties and psychometrics and does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students are required to video themselves administering and scoring the test and submit these videos to Stranmillis University College VLE for assessment, together with a summary of the test findings. Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.

CTOPP 2

This course focuses on the administration and scoring of the Comprehensive Test of Phonological Processing, 2nd edition (CTOPP-2) providing a standardised measure of phonological processing abilities related to reading.  Core subtests assess phonological awareness, phonological memory and rapid naming.  Supplemental subtests may be used to allow the assessor to obtain more detail about phonological strengths and weaknesses, if necessary. This course is aimed at assessors who have a good understanding of dyslexia, cognitive processing abilities and psychometrics. It does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.

WIATT-111 UK-T

This course focuses on the administration and scoring of the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test – 3rd edition for teachers (WIAT-111-T).  This test consists of five subtests used to evaluate reading and spelling skills (Early Reading Skills, Reading Comprehension, Word Reading, Oral Reading Fluency and Spelling). The course is aimed at assessors who have a good understanding of reading and spelling acquisition and development.  It does not focus on general test competencies in test administration practice.

Students who are successful in administering, scoring and reporting the test findings, without errors, are awarded a competence certificate for the test.
